This is to be a place for up-to-date information on the current plight of bees worldwide. It is a work in progress, and any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas are most welcome. I feel there’s a need to bring together in one place current information on pollinator conservation, so that everyone can stay up-to-date on the latest news and events in the bee world as we see it.
I’m particularly fond of bees, and I feel it’s tragic to see what’s happening to bees in the name of commercial and agricultural interests. I’m hoping that more and more people will rally to save bees, in the numerous ways this can be done… planting pollinator friendly gardens, moving away from agricultural practices of monoculture, eliminating pesticides, and regulating the commercial movement of bees to protect our native species.
I guess it’s easy for people to think that because bees (and other insects) are so small, they are inherently less meaningful in some way, so far from human beings as to be either unthought of, or worse, sought out and killed intentionally. I believe an individual bee’s life is just as important as a human life, and their range of expression, emotion, and thought just as rich and diverse as ours.
If you’d like to delve into their world as I see them (through my photos) while this site is being built, visit Enlightened Bugs (where I post photos like the one in this blog post).
The Xerces Society also provides numerous pollinator conservation resources on their site.
More to come… soon!
